Emails from Students

“It was awesome to hear you speak and I especially liked the way you focused on turning motivation into commitment. The room was captivated with your passion and enthusiasm the whole time you spoke to us. Your own story clearly shows what is possible when people dare to dream and put in the hard work, and I can truly say that what I took out of your talk, was a much greater sense of belief in myself and my own dreams.”

Year 11 Student, Ravenswood

“Today when I was listening to you talk I honestly felt moved by your words, I felt something stir within me. I recognised parts of myself in your words and I felt a refreshed sense of purpose. You have truly inspired me to keep riding the roller coaster that is life and to hold out until my slump is over. Thank you so much for inspiring me today and for honestly helping me to help myself start to turn my life around and find a purpose. You have no idea how much I needed it. My mum even remarked tonight about how I seem to be back to my old self again. I really can’t thank you enough.I can honestly say I’ve never been this moved or inspired by hearing someone speak before.”

“I just wanted to thank you so much for coming and visiting us. I can't tell you how much it meant to me. You restored so much hope and confidence in me that has slowly faded over the years thanks to self doubt and other people's opinions. Thank you again for giving me hope, and please never stop speaking to students, I know you have changed so many people's lives including mine.”

Year 11 Student, The Glennie School

“Thank you so much for the amazing talk you gave at Frensham this morning! It was really useful and inspiring, and our whole year was talking about how good it was afterwards. For me, it came at a very appropriate time in my life. I have recently really been struggling with my motivation towards school, trying to figure out what I want to do next year, and where I want to go in life, and my mental health a bit. Your talk has given me some great tools to help with all these things, Again, thank you so much! It has really helped me in more ways than can be explained.”

Year 12 Student, Frensham School

“I want to thank you for the speech you gave at school today. To be honest, I usually don’t take much away from school speeches, and I forget about them in a few days. But this past year I’ve really been struggling with the idea of who I am, and I’ve been pushing aside my passions and talents in favour for what people tell me I should do. After you speech I took massive action towards my goals and I really have never felt better, I haven’t done something on track with what I want in a really long time, and you’ve managed to bring out that old passion that I thought I’d actually killed. I really just wanted to say that you’ve managed to inspire me even though I’m pretty shut off, and I want to thank you so much.”

“I came into today's session with a very different mindset to what I had when I came out. I didn't expect to be inspired and equipped with hope. You really had an impact on me. I don't think I have ever had someone give me a viewpoint like that before and the session really gave me the opportunity to think about where I am going. You helped me realise that the only thing holding me back from doing what I love is myself and, I've now decided that I'm going to stop dreaming, actually go out and make it into a reality and, to start doing things as they come to me instead of putting it off before various reasons. So, I just want to say a big thank you for the session you gave to our school. I feel like today was a really important moment for me as a person and for my career. I won't forget this.”

“When I heard that we were getting another talk from an inspirational speaker, I thought that it would be the exact same thing as all the others. Your ‘Day of Hope’ was easily the highlight of my year. The amount of enthusiasm you had, the stories you shared and the realness of your talk really set yours apart from others. Recently I have been confused and worried for my future as I did not know what I wanted to do or even what direction I wanted to proceed in. I had no motivation or drive to continue trying in certain parts of my life. I have been struggling to keep up sometimes. Your talk really helped me find a better picture of my future and how I need to get there and helped me gain motivation to get my life on track. Thank You so much for taking time to come to my school and talking.”

Year 11 Student, John Wollaston Anglican Community School

“Last month I was in hospital for depression with no hope for a future or anything. After listening and engaging with the ‘Day of Hope Seminar’ I managed to get into an introductory course at my dream university for the next 3 weeks to work on my directing skills. Without you, I would have never taken this step of finding my purpose.  Thank you so much for everything – it was so needed and you are the reason why I am following my dreams.”

Year 11 Student, Redlands School, Sydney

“For so long, I have felt so hopeless and without purpose. I've always had dreams, but have struggled to chase them because frankly I couldn't conceptualise making it through the next 12 months to see these dreams come to fruition. But your words of hope and wisdom have made me believe that the future is there, and I can make of it anything I wish if I just believe and action my dreams. Thank you again for your wisdom and the hope that you provide.”

“You spoke to a group of Reddam House students. I was there and everything you said hit me hard....very hard. You opened up so many new windows for me. You changed how I see myself and how I see my future. You even made me silently tear up when talking briefly about knowing your purpose and feeling as if your past is holding you back. More than any motivational speaker I have heard, you have impacted my life in such a way, that I now wake up every morning looking forward to what the day may bring. You forced me to look at my future and what I deeply desire. Thank you for opening my eyes and allowing me to take a good look at myself.”

"I am in year 11 at Wesley College, and today, I have to say was one of the most inspirational talks I have ever witnessed. You didn't sugar coat anything and you instilled a sense of purpose for me! Your presentation today has provided me with a new sense of direction and a form of paradigm shift in the way I will tackle the obstacles that are still laid out before me and my business. Yet again, thank you very much for your talk. It has provided me, and I'm sure several other students a new perspective on their future and what they're capable of!"

“I attend Brisbane Boys' College. I just want to thank you. My life hasn't been the easiest. I didn't think I was going to make more than a couple more weeks before taking my life. Then we were told that a man named Glen Gerreyn was going to speak to us. I was in grade 9 at the time. I'll be honest I thought you were going to be another cheesy inspirational speaker, but after your talk I felt so inspired. You told me that I could do anything. I always wanted to be a carpenter. My mum and my uncle who are both alcoholics always told me I would never make it, I would never succeed. But because of you, I now have a school based apprenticeship with JNC Constructions. Your most recent talk with us made my imagination run wild. Maybe I could even start my own business. Maybe I could just shoot for greater things. I want to thank you for two major things: 1. Giving me the drive to chase my dream. 2. Giving me my life. Because without your talk, I don't think I would be here today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Year 11 Student, Brisbane Boys College

“I was at your Perth College talk a few days ago and I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for all your work and dedication to others. Throughout the many presenters I have heard, no one has inspired me as much as you did and I will admit I filled multiple pages of notes, borders and all, with your inspirational words. I always thought I would be an insignificant background character in the world but I now know I have the potential to impact many lives just like you do. I will forever be grateful for your words and I hope to continue making sense of them more and more as I grow as a person”

Year 11 Student, Perth College

“The speech you gave was so powerful, and really internally did something to me that I can't explain, it seemed more than life to me, it had deep meaning and gave me hope.”

Year 10 Student, All Saints Anglican School

“I just wanted to let you know how inspired I was after you talk. I was in a slump with my mental health. Your speech was the slap to the face I needed to help myself get out of that dark place I had been in. I just wanted to email you express my gratitude for helping me in ways you wouldn’t have known.”

Year 12 Student, Catholic College Wodonga

“Recently you visited my school in Orange. I just wanted to say thank you because before you came I was in a hole where I felt depressed and believing that I had know purpose in life.. Your workshop on Monday pulled me up out of the hole and you’ve probably heard this word a lot but you inspired me to do things that I’ve always wanted to do for a long and gave me some purpose for life. Since Monday I’ve had this courage and passion to not stand on the back foot and defend life, but attack it head on and take as many opportunities as I can. Not comparing myself with anyone else. I have already taken massive action towards my dreams. Thank you again.”

Year 10 Student, Kinross Wolari School

“Thank you for coming and speaking to us, it really inspired me to take charge of myself and my life. You didn't mess around, you were brutally honest with us and that's just what I think we all needed; it's definitely what I needed. I went home and unfollowed 643 accounts on Instagram which were bad for my mental health - crazy!! I've finished my vision board and started feeling more comfortable about myself as a person again. I'm so much more happier. Thank you for everything you told us.
